Artist Statement Submitted 2017I investigate the process of mutation and evolution undertaken by diverse organisms in order to adapt to their current surroundings. This process reflects my own evolving identity through the continuous interactions between myself and the current culture and society I live in. The structure of my identity remains open - it is always in a process of "becoming."
My series of sculptures, paintings, drawings and installations explores the power of my every changing identity in the making. Through repeating the process of evolution, atrophy and adaptation, there comes an emphasis of instability, fragmentation, dislocation, and agitation.
Fossilized fish, feathers, dinosaurs and silverware are some of the images and history I use to allude to my own feelings of displacement as a foreigner living in a new country, and the constant transformation of my "hybrid" identity
