William Wofford, Jr. is a third generation Floridian who lives and paints in the coastal community of central Florida where he was born and raised. Essentially self taught, he has been drawing since early childhood. Inspired by great American realists like Andrew Wyeth and Edward Hopper, and as a means of not only creating personal and autobiographical subject matter but also documenting a vanishing Floridian culture, the focus of his work since late 1991 has been his own home and studio; a 1912 “shotgun style” house in a rapidly changing rural neighborhood. After surviving a serious illness in 1996, Wofford discontinued his participation in most art events and exhibitions, choosing instead to further deepen his focus on his private study of autobiographical works.
