Artist Statement Submitted 2016I was born in Nashville, TN and basically grew up on my grandmother’s farm. It was a remote location with few neighbors close by but we were surrounded by nature, which I consider my first real playmate. I wandered he forest and fields surrounding the farm and saw both the beauty of nature and sometimes its ugliness. But either way I gained an incredible respect for it, and I saw the importance of preserving it.
Later I moved to suburban areas and even urban areas but I always carried with me this deep-seeded love of natural places. All these experiences have influenced this body of work. I think simple materials can make grand statements, and creating a catalyst for the viewer to reflect on is a goal of my work. Much of my work reflects the natural world I grew up surrounded by and the man-made environment I work in now.
