Artist Statement Submitted 2017For me, realism is more than a style. It is a visual tool that I use in conjunction with a pop-culture and design mentality to capture the viewer’s attention to my figurative subject matter. My figures, sometimes painted with photorealistic detail, are isolated from a natural environment and placed in an abstract composition where their narrative and compositional roles are exaggerated. The use of colors is also exaggerated in my work. I keep my palette “unlimited” so that I don’t stifle any visually conceptual possibilities while painting.
My ultimate goal is to create something that is beautiful and affecting – something that emphasizes the most alluring parts of reality and imagination.
