Artist Statement Submitted 2017At heart I am a collector of objects that have worn out their welcome elsewhere. When these unwanted items--torsos and legs, ceramic animals, leaves, and flowers--get into my hands, I give them new, improved, lives through deconstruction and reconstruction. I rescue, repair and renew.
This conversion of the dead into a new, living, creation begins on an operating table of sorts. There I cut, break, chop, glue, and grout, creating often anthropomorphic, and obsessively adorned, works to celebrate the continuous rebirth of nature. I try to make natural forces bloom anew, evoking new growth where there was once decay. I try to approach art and life free of dogma, and to reach deeply into my intuitive self.
