My brother took his own life on his first visit home after severing his spinal cord in a motorcycle accident. What often comes to mind are the first few lines from his suicide letter.
“ I arrived home just about the time the Honeysuckle blooms. “
Russell was not the sort of person to notice flowers, so I find it really beautiful and achingly sad at how poetic it was for him to stop and see the beauty around him if only because he knew it would be for the last time.
It is the Honeysuckle that reminds me to notice the beauty around me, that reminds me to pay attention to life's gifts, and not take them for granted. Sometimes people don't see the beauty around them until you show them in a picture. My images become my proof that beauty exists even in the most unlikely places.
