Artist Statement Submitted 2017
As a visual artist using found objects for self-expression, I work in partnership with my materials. I use needle and thread to articulate the accumulated memory inherent in discarded things. Meticulous hand embroidery conveys themes of memory, mortality, and personal legacy. Because time is short and days are numbered, I work with hope that my art might be kept through coming generations, regarded for its quality, and marking my existence on this planet. This is a race to the final day. I am drawn to textiles for their tactile qualities, making work meant to touch and be touched.
