Artist Statement Submitted 2015

I'm interested in visual vocabularies. There is one I'm building now where shapes and forms like feet and little shoes, hats, hair dos, clouds, and windows, float over and over again like playful toys in space.
The other is a visual vocabulary we all collectively share, that one has to do with signs, cartoons, graffiti and illustrations from childhood books. Those things are never out of our sight line.

Where do these cross for all of us? Can something feel familiar yet strange? Remind us of that one bloopy cartoon but hint at something darker? Can we share an experience while we each have one of our own? Can that help us consider another’s experience in a new way?
