Artist Statement Submitted 2019
I was drawn to textiles by the stories they tell. The narrative of generations, woven and printed for utility or adornment. I’ve observed in our newest human incarnation of fast fashion and social media selfies there is a hole in this story; our present selves are not wholly reflected in the craft. I’ve invented a sculptural technique of painting acrylic panes and embroidering in 3 dimensions. I employ traditional skills I have honed since childhood as well as new practices I have acquired along the way. My imagery is an exploration of the self through the modern lens...those eternally mortal musings on love and loss, life and death.
