Artist Statement Submitted 2014
My art is the result of a creative and exhilarating process that I always find challenging and rewarding, influenced by my rich Cuban cultural heritage filled by family traditions of storytelling, myths, religious beliefs, superstitions, food ways and social customs. I have always had a rich imagination that assimilates subjective impressions and interpretations of events I encounter every day in life. I usually carry a sketch book to figuratively record the thought that went through my mind. These become my special treasures that influence my finished works. I use a great deal of symbolism in my art to give depth to the subjects that I wish to express. I want my art to tell a story in a manner that stimulates the imaginations of others. I will use different techniques and mediums ranging from oils, Acrylics, pastels, watercolors, espresso coffee, and many others to create the mood and atmosphere. It is the creative process of using these materials and methods that feed my soul.
