Artist Statement Submitted 2020My work is influenced by my rich Cuban cultural heritage and my continued personal and artistic development while living in the South. I am naturally drawn to rural scenes and agrarian life. These environments allow me to unobtrusively observe life’s daily functions while capturing their essence in my work.
My fables and animal series garners inspiration from folklore once told to me by my grandfather during my childhood in Cuba. The paintings in this series depict these characters and narrate how they travel through time and space to tell their story. These stories have impacted my creativity and imagination, they are intrinsically a part of me.
I use a variety of mediums including oils, watercolors, coffee, and charcoal. I believe it is my mission as an artist to have a voice in society, and to inspire and be a reference for future generations.
