Artist Statement Submitted 2018My work visually explores moments from the past 100 years of human exploitation and environmentalism in Southern Louisiana. Through installation and a multi-media approach to printmaking, my sculptures and prints examine beauty and death to create an emotional connection to the flora and fauna of Louisiana. My art visually communicates the complexities of human behavior as we strive to extinguish, preserve and enjoy the lands we inhabit.
Similar to many of the subjects of my work, printmaking is an endangered art. As technology sweeps away the human hand, printmaking, the original disseminator of the written word, languishes in the shadows of its former glory. My work is hand printed from every feather and hair. Utilizing screenprint, woodcut, collagraph, etching and thousands of hours of hand cutting I embrace the past and construct my future.
