Pete Schulte

Artist Statement Submitted 2015

Works on paper comprised of graphite, pigment, and ink are the cornerstone of my practice, which includes an integration of sculpture, site-specific and curatorial activities. The objects at hand employ a quiet geometry, nuanced surface treatment, and subtle use of color. They are never predetermined, but arrive through the act of improvising and revising, with one work often begetting the next. The thin strata that exists between presence and void, image and object, longing and loss, is the space that my art aspires to occupy. Whatever form it takes, the work is an earnest attempt to share this space, to provide a moment of pause.
