Artist Statement Submitted 2015

The resulting imagery in my work is based on the use of masking techniques and collage materials to create a vocabulary of geometric and rectilinear elements. I configure these elements within a loosely defined grid, or series of continuous horizontal bands, which act as an armature for applying successive layers of paint and canvas. As my work develops, I begin to define simple formations that coexist within space that is both flat and illusionistic. These structures are simultaneously forming and disintegrating within the space of the canvas or appearing to extend continuously beyond defined borders.
