Artist Statement Submitted 2019I started and have been working on this body of work because while I talk about identity, displacement, diaspora of community, I never could address those concepts in a deeper and personal manner as it relates to me. It is a fearful thing to confront the nightmares of my childhood, the violation of my personhood as a adolescent and adult, to address that changing landscape of middle-age in a world where my existence as a woman, especially a middle-age Jewish woman, mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother, veteran, artist, survivor, and more is often challenged but even more often ignored or just negated. So I did this for myself and it is the first time I am showing it to a larger world. Just this submission is incredibly and mutually terrifying and strengthening. I claim my own history and my own story.
