Natalie McLaurin
Louisiana

Artist Statement Submitted 2014

The figures in my work use animal disguises to hide from gender stereotypes, some of the figures express frustration in a comic way while other figures appropriate male gestures of power. I want to move beyond stereotyped understanding of gender to a more complex understanding that can honor the legacy of craft traditionally associated with women in the united states.
