Artist Statement Submitted 2014Leslie Elliottsmith’s imagery is compiled from multiple photographic images which have been amassed over the years. The multi-layered composite photographs exhibit Louisiana and southern imagery, including the human touch on the environment and nature in all its beauty. The intention is to create ambiguous compositions that are symbolic and narrative.
The imagery slowly evolves and frequently contains images of water, natural life cycles, and regeneration. The passage of time, evolution of human emotions and life events are prevalent, but not the human themselves. It is the leftover objects and architectural structures that are of interest. The dichotomy of man’s creations within nature permeates the majority of my work. How have we changed the environment that surrounds us?
