Artist Statement Submitted 2020

My paintings are political satire based on the iconography and ideals of Medieval and Renaissance altarpieces and manuscripts applied to our current political situation. Prior to the 2016 election I used their iconography to depict my family. After 2016 I combined the content in these images with current news, commentary, tweets, quotes and photos of political individuals.

I use 22k gold leaf and egg tempera on wooden panels and sometimes animal skin, (vellum) attempting to replicate the look and feel of Medieval and Renaissance imagery.
