Artist Statement Submitted 2015

In my work I explore the meaning of family and the gendered messages and myths surrounding the concept of women’s roles. Inspired by my family’s vintage photographs, I make paintings based on the iconography and ideals of Medieval and Renaissance altarpieces and manuscripts, stop motion videos, costumes from vintage 1940 patterns, and photo digital collages of rooms in period metal dollhouses. I place myself inside wearing the costumes and performing womanly activities.
