Kevin Morrissey's work has long been supported by layers of worn textures with images of southern iconography, with the desire to tell stories of longing and searching for meaning in the transitioning south. Morrissey's current work on and of old tools demonstrates a maturing of themes anchored in traditions of his earlier work. The worn tools are treated as sacred vessels, cleaned, repaired, and preserved. The tools are then covered with layers of icons representing faith, doubt, greed, wisdom, sin, love, and grace. Layered over the icons are images inspired by graven images of the colonial slate tombstone carvings.
