Artist Statement Submitted 2017My work is composed of pieces and places. Ubiquitous materials and objects commonly found in the home, then repurposed and contorted into assemblages that serve as references for architectural and illusionary spaces.
Utilizing methods of trompe l’oeil painting and collage I exploit the artifice in a way that creates a more intimate, almost surreal encounter for the viewer. Through this interplay between representation and painterly abstraction, tensions begin to arise between the surface of the painting and the pictorial plane, between the tangible and the materiality of surface. It is this combining of languages both past and present that my work seeks to find compromise.
