Mosaic draws interest when one realizes the parallels between life and the art form. My fascination began in 2009 and has only increased with each completed piece. Contemporary mosaics have changed the way I look at the world as I am always seeing the forest and the trees, the whole and the pieces, and the infinite possibilities with each decision. The possibilities stem from the material itself; placement, size, shape, color, texture and reflectivity. The way the tesserae plays against the pieces adjacent competes with its part in the whole composition. Each piece laid offers a whole host of parallel ideas for future projects. The labor intensity of mosaics has me working cyclically through ideas to add variety. Thus themes of identity, nature, faith and family are revisited in three dimensions, realism, and abstract concept works.
