Artist Statement Submitted 2015My current work is about the complexity of modern experience. As the information highway bring us closer to complex reality, my work questions and celebrates how as humans we “understand” our world.
I have been using images of late Enlightenment French wallpapers to ground my research. Before the more general use of the photograph to document, these images offered views of the scientific exploration of the known world providing the first western views of the newly accessible world.
I re-imagine with my photographic collages the extended cosmological context: multi-directional, shifting, multicultural reflecting the interconnectedness of science and religion. Combining ethereal black and white background images (many of which depict places with some kind of spiritual significance) with fragment of images, I hope to evoke visually the universal interconnectedness of all things in a shifting and perpetually changing global perspective.
