Artist Statement Submitted 2015
My approach to video and sound comes from an interest in mid-century structure, and a formal fluency in film, music and drawing. I am interested in how the cinematic experience can be altered to create works that live between narrative and abstraction, where cinematic conventions collapse upon themselves and are rebuilt into broken, open-ended environments. Within these spaces I explore a balance between the familiar and the unknown, creating short mood pieces that transport the viewer into a world of confusing logic, and saturated with emotional weight.
