Artist Statement Submitted 2019Growing up as an introspective child observing social situations more than starring in them, I became deeply curious about intrapersonal relationships and implications of identity. My work examines identity by looking into the past through symbols which embody nostalgia for those portrayed using detail akin to the vividness of memory. Cyclical thought patterns based in memory rumination result in blocks in connecting to ourselves and others. Brené Brown explained the importance of connection saying, “We are hardwired to connect with others, it’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it there is suffering” (8). My goal is to give other people a platform to share and achieve peace with the past.
