Artist Statement Submitted 2015
Over the years my artwork has evolved into an interdisciplinary approach to sculpture, installation and photography. I combine and intertwine these concentrations to create dynamic experiences for my viewer. I utilize photography as a tool by which I begin and end my projects. I regularly take walks, composing my reality and gaining inspiration. I gravitate towards environments where nature is reclaiming industry. My installations portray this complex relationship, affirming the power and resilience of the natural world. I am also attracted to ordinary, everyday and discarded objects. My sculptures arise from a need to rescue these abandoned items and reconstruct their components into new, engaging combinations. I often compose photographs of the new hand-made objects, involving them in manipulated situations that subvert their original context. My work transforms mundane items into artworks with metaphorical meaning where the viewer reflects on his/her own relationship with the world.
