Artist Statement Submitted 2017I work in multi-disciplines addressing issues of identity, reciprocity and transformation to examine the lives of working class African-Americans. Two dimensionally I make drawing and digital works to map out and illustrate an emotional content thats personal, but not specific.. I think that using digital media in some form today is curcial because it, more so than the camera in the “Age Of Mechanical Reproduction” Walter Benjamin, has affect and effect on how we see.
The work from drawing to sculpture is not a direct correlation, but is closer to working in reverse. Working in reverse is not working backwards, it is allowing each medium the time it needs in order create the thing it wants to create. Photoshop is fast, graphite drawing is medium and sculpture is slow, I use found materials, as well as things one might get from your local hardware store or Home Depot.
