Artist Statement Submitted 2014For thirty-five years, I have been exploring the practice and the idea of painting. Each gesture I make, each layer of color I spread is specifically meaningful to me. Each subsequent stroke, I respond to what is already there and what it means-- like a dance or a chess game where one move instigates the next.
My practice resides in making paintings and drawings at scales ranging from the intimate to the monumental, I am also dedicated to making large-scale installations that translate my painted images into immersive spaces of color and light. I want the viewer not just to look at the artwork, actually to be in it: to see what cannot be seen except with the help of technology. The physical space my art inhabits becomes its silent partner, speaking to and shaping the work so that it becomes seamless with the frame of the building.
