Artist Statement Submitted 2014I work almost exclusively in the area of drawing, which broadly explores several main themes - autobiographical events, the uneasy relationship between landscape and industry, cultural erosion and synthesis. For the purposes of narrative, many take on a Triptych format. At present they are a constant 80” high and 240” long.
My interest lies more in illusion than physicality that is why my large pieces are always presented, frameless and without glass. I would like them to float like wafers on the wall - without weight they can push you back or pull you in.
I hope, in my work one of the agendas is to make a positive contribution to the status of drawing as a prime and terminal medium for contemporary image making. I wish to demonstrate that it is equal to any media form in involving the spectator in a physical, emotional and conceptual engagement.
