Clive King

Artist Statement Submitted 2017

I work almost exclusively in the area of drawing, which broadly explores several main themes – autobiographical events, the uneasy relationship between landscape and industry and other environmental observations. My interest lies more in illusion than physicality that is why my large pieces are always presented, frameless and without glass.
For the past two years I have been working on a series of drawings related to a tragedy that happened in the area I was born and spent my youth.
I lived near a small coal-mining village called Aberfan. In 1968 a slagheap collapsed and crashed into the local school claiming the lives of generation of chidren. For over 50 years I have tried, through my work, to interpret my feelings about this tragedy and failed miserably.
Now I think I have a workable solution and the first exhibition of the work was in Miami Urban Studios , Miami Beach in 2016. The umbrella title for the series is “The Chaos Machines"
