Clive King

Artist Statement Submitted 2016

I work almost exclusively in the area of drawing, which broadly explores several main themes – autobiographical events, the uneasy relationship between landscape and industry and other environmental observations. My interest lies more in illusion than physicality that is why my large pieces are always presented, frameless and without glass.
During my youth I lived near a small coal-mining village called Aberfan. In 1968 a slagheap collapsed and crashed into the local school claiming the lives of generation of chidren. For over 50 years I have tried, through my work, to interpret my feelings about this tragedy and failed miserably.
Now I think I have a workable solution and the first exhibition of the work to date has just opened in Miami Urban Studios , Miami Beach. The title is“The Chaos Machines’ and other investigations.
