Clive King

Artist Statement Submitted 2015

I work almost exclusively in the area of drawing, which explores several main themes – including autobiographical events, and the nature of landscape and cultures I experience on my travels.

At present I am working on a project based on a tragedy from my past,
I lived very near to a village which suffered a coal mining accident took the lives of 118 children and 28 adults. (see my website). Traveling through small mining towns in West Virginia has brought these memories back and I have begun to engage them in my work.

As part of this investigation, there will be a series of 15 large ink drawings (each 52”w x 74h). Five are almost completed the initial working title is “The Chaos Machines”

My interest lies more in illusion than physicality that is why my large drawings are always presented, frameless and without glass.
