Artist Statement Submitted 2017
My work is an extreme penetration by the artist to explore the concept that actions and objects are invasive, and meant only to selfishly gauge one's idea of value and/or to gain position, power, wealth, knowledge, health, and ultimately a meaning in the world through comparing, competing, conquering, and sharing. My work is both fragmented and whole, held together by each color, subject, material, and form worked repeated, as if yearning to have its own function, purpose, and importance, while simultaneously competing with the artist and viewer's desire for the same thing through the act of interaction. Thus, I strive to discern why and how unity and beauty, or disaster- and thus meaning- can be produced, sometimes inevitably, from the conflict of selfish pieces.
