Artist Statement Submitted 2018The idea of connection and re-connection is something that has been part of my work for the past few years. I have chosen to explore this journey through the use of still-life painting due to the power of the common object. The common object is something that we can all relate to, and all of us have different experiences and memories. Sometimes, the object can serve as a catalyst for a memory that has been forgotten. The re-connection with that memory and emotion can be a magical moment that is personal and unique to each viewer.
Many of the objects I have chosen to use come directly from my grandfather’s barn, or I have discovered them in in antique stores. The objects are items I interacted with as a child in some way, and now they have a more profound meaning which is sometimes metaphor.
