Charity Rachelle

Artist Statement Submitted 2020

Charity Rachelle uses a blend of traditional and modern photography techniques to explore the tension between tradition and modernity in the American Deep South. She primarily works as a documentary photographer, investigating themes such as religion, family, fringe societies, and human relationship to the natural world.

Her work recognizes cultural norms and political expectations while presenting lived experiences and places without the interference of judgment or concepts such as right/wrong, good/bad. Within this perspective she attempts to use her subject matter as a form of expression rather than exploitation.
