Artist Statement Submitted 2016A vague memory of childhood in Korea, but I was fortunate to remember the colors from the Korean Folk Art. My art emerges out of two cultures that exist inside of me. I depict the synthesis between Korea and America, by using the Korean traditional art color palette, Korean calligraphic brush strokes with influence of Cy Twombly’s Western painting technique.
I can now say with absolute certainty that this new life in America, which began the moment I first set foot in this country, has been a metaphorical journey from darkness to light for me. My life as an Artist without hope, happiness, or freedom vanished and was replaced by powerful passion.
