Ayodele Owolabi

Artist Statement Submitted 2020

I am a Versatile artist and my work ranges from the context of day to day street experience to the museums, from the rich and cultural carnival of black Indian Mardi Gras of New Orleans to how its relate to that of my Yoruba Culture of South Western Nigeria because I saw a similarity in these two culture and sometimes focusing on the beauty of black race, ritual and royalty dimension of the culture which help to pass the message that everyone is a King and Queen in our own spheres
The major preoccupation of my work is the use of colours to espouse the idea of cultural celebrations. I explore themes around the effects of cultural contacts and blending. No doubt that there are many ways the cultures of Africa compares with the cultures of south/central America
