Ayana Ross

Artist Statement Submitted 2020

Capturing images of moments past while making parallels to current events, my work is intended to address issues of race, identity and value systems within our society; in so doing I aim to illuminate stories of beauty, strength and progress within the black community that may have garnered little attention in years past. Many of these stories are inspired by images and events within my family and our known origins in the American South. I am hopeful that these paintings resonate with others by exposing our shared commonalities and adding to the fullness of our humanness.
