Artist Statement Submitted 2018When I encounter a live scene or a photo of interest, an image begins forming in my head. A clearer vision eventually stays in my mind until I finally sketch my thoughts out on the canvas.
Many times, I just paint without a sketch to let my mood take over my creative juices. Background jazz or blues seems to enhance my art process—particularly when concentrating on some of my southern paintings.
In either case, I prefer using acrylic paints because it forces me not to change much of my original intention. Although oils maybe more forgiving, the faster drying of acrylic helps me decided when I’m done with my art piece. Perhaps if I would have had some art schooling, my approach to painting may be different.
