Southlandia, my current body of work, offers a balanced playing field of Southern culture littered amidst a sublime, yet mysterious and entropic landscape where socially induced issues are revealed in the course of it's multilayered present. As one ganders at either the weathered, strewn-about vehicles and implements or the variance of dwelling structures indicative of the lower forty-eight, cultural concepts are framed within one’s subconscious. Coupled with objects and signs of righteousness and rowdiness, other thematic constructs are incorporated into the visuals, including Southern literature, race-relations, land-management, and socio-economics. The correspondence of painting and printmaking techniques hybridize on the surface of mounted panels as an impetus of visually understanding the cultural character of the American South.
