Artist Statement Submitted 2015Through painting and drawing I am mapping out fragments of our daily lives. Although the marks may appear to be random, closer inspection will reveal figurative images. The characters depicted act out scenes and share their stories as they fade in and out of deep space. The figures interact with one another but mostly remain isolated in moments that seem reflective. I want to convey a sense of purpose and pause in the ordinary, repetitive activity that is taking place in front of the viewer.
Using an economy of line, my paintings and drawings examine the complex human form and I hope to reveal a piece of our collective human experience. These non-linear narratives are derived from daily life and provide an opportunity for the viewer to consider the impact of the “insignificant”.
