Artist Statement Submitted 2018My work is best understood as multidimensional elements in conversation with each other. Pieces vary from painting, drawing, photography, video, sound, poetry, and sculpture. Works are energized through site adaptive installation where I can integrate the abstract and the referential, and where the arrangement of objects and ensuing dialogue takes prime importance.
A driving force behind my work is the multi-cultural influences assimilated through living in an endless list of homes from Europe, the South-Eastern US, and the Caribbean. My approach embraces the natural mechanisms that formed my identity: acceptance, interconnectedness, transformation, and exploration.
Re-contextualized materials are a catalyst that I manipulate, intermix, deconstruct and reassemble, pushing and pulling at the surface until a sense of oneness is discovered. The process is like weaving together and then peeling back layers of skin overlapped by memory, place, and experience.
