My art practice consists of two main research focuses: the first, is situated in a critique of whiteness through the examination of Southern performative traditions like Debutante Balls and symbols of historical significance or present-day charge like the Antebellum hoop skirt and pineapple. This work exposes how colonial aesthetics function to maintain ideological control. The second builds on and establishes counter-hegemonic aesthetics through the production of elaborate garments and collaboratively made protest banners referencing generational quilting collectives and feminist and queer activism
