Artist Statement Submitted 2015It is a good thing for the artist to pause from time to time, to look back and identify themes or directions prevalent in the work.
Brand Loyalty is a series of large, isolated images of painter’s pants and deserted churches, Civil War uniforms (Blue and Gray) and defunct agri-building and are the result of just such a stock-taking.
These works are democratic in selection, no one thing more important than the other. They all once demanded loyalty and by our current definition, constitute a brand. Another thing they have in common is my need to paint them.
Brand Loyalty has presented me with the opportunity to use materials, oil paint, dry pigment and gold leaf on rag paper, in an open and expressive way. The possibilities are limitless. I see no end in sight.
