Artist Statement Submitted 2016I make drawings primarily rooted in the notion of souvenir. My works commemorate actual lived experiences and those that might be better described as virtual, in equal measure.
The drawings submitted here are all personal history documents developed out of the desire to catalogue the people, places, and events of my life. I attribute the impulse to keep an autobiographical record to my father on the one hand for requiring me to keep a journal during family trips starting at the age of eight and to my mother on the other for her practice of cross-stitching decorative samplers for her home to commemorate important events and holidays. Consequently, I’ve kept a journal in the traditional sense or in the form of a sketchbook for most of my life.
