Artist Statement Submitted 2020
An experiment with texture and material, Tori Lusik’s work comes from the want to create something new with something unexpected. Using materials that are often overlooked, Tori takes found materials and reshapes them within her work. Yarn, paint, and even dryer sheets come together to form familiar scenes reimagined by memory, materials, and loss. A large part of her pieces are based upon preserving moments of the Lowcountry she experienced as a child, including interactions with local artists. Some of her pieces pays homage to these artists while others merely nod to them.
