Artist Statement Submitted 2019
The attached images from a series of paintings entitled Wanderjahr [Wander Year] marries an established studio practice with recent studies in art history by combining iconic images, fictive frames, and patterned wallpaper to create portals, or windows, allowing a viewer to explore emotional, spatial, and temporal distance from a modern vantage point. The project examines the nature of “the copy” in representations that evoke a shift between the waking world and the subconscious, the real and represented, and between interior and exterior environments.
