I live on a barrier island; some call it a sea island. It is surrounded by the ocean on the east side, marsh on other sides. The marsh, with creeks running through them, dominates our landscape. I am drawn to sea island marshes and seek to capture its beauty through photography. The marsh creeks, carrying the tide in and out from the ocean, create patterns that draw the eye into the marsh as they meaner to the ocean. Spartina, the primary marsh grass, has rich green, yellow and auburn hues, depending on the season. Clouds, real and imagined, are reflected in the water. Aware of their transitional geology, I am determined to capture the beauty of our island’s marshes before they are swallowed by sea level rise.
