Artist Statement Submitted 2018
I moved to Johns Island, SC because I love the warm light, open spaces and gracious passage of time found in the low-country. I am not interested in a literal representation of things but in seeing-feeling the relationship between things. The world shows itself as a network of interrelationships that sets up rhythms, patterns and connections. Painting allows you to hold time still while simultaneously revealing its movement. This is a poignant and powerful truth. I paint my life as it unfolds - where I live, who I know and what’s happening around me. I don’t see it as landscape, portraiture or still life. These traditional categories are too limiting and don’t capture the reality of how things are interconnected. There is beauty in the moment as it unfolds. This is what excites me as an artist.
