Artist Statement Submitted 2015It’s not often that I come upon a story having the ability to hold far-reaching implications. I truly did not understand the impact of Nashville in Harmony until I was deep into this project.
As a member of the LGBT community myself, I hadn’t experienced the pain that goes along with being authentic to one’s self - unlike some of the people in this film.
My hope is that anyone who is struggling will see this film. I want those people to know that there are places in the world where people will care about you and you will be accepted and loved. You must seek them out to survive.
The Nashville in Harmony chorus is inspiring because they built this community from the ground up, against many odds. Their passion is contagious. Their dedication to artistic excellence excites me and was a main factor in this retrospective look at their history.
I cannot thank enough - Kelly Sutton, Nic Dugger, and Amanda Van Sandt for the time they put into helping make this film a reality.
